Building The Community Group

Alison Cook: Group Head
Ira Winter: Group Secretary
Richard Hartle: Social Secretary

What is our vision and how do we deliver it?

Alison Cook May 2011:

"This is a good Group to be in. We are blue sky thinkers who bring all sorts of personal skills to the table. It is refreshing to have the space to float ideas with like minded people. We all have the same aim - to build the Church Community. Having said that we are not just a talking shop. The meetings are focused and intense. Specific ideas are closely considered and clear decisions are made. Most importantly we deliver on our decisions within an agreed time scale. Usually weeks. We then move on to the next new thing. The incorporation of the Social Committee has been smoothly handled and successful. We are making a difference."

Changes in formation:

During the course of 2011 the Social Committee has been integrated into the Group. New members have come forward namely Simon and Emma O’Neill.

The Group has had a busy 12 months.

What we have achieved:

  1. Commissioned the Church Website. Working closely with Patrick Armstrong and Father John the Group has delivered an important and evolving Church resource.
  2. Spearheaded the impetus for the provision of teas and coffees after the 5pm, 9am and 5.30pm Masses.
  3. Identified that a Communications Group was required (this has subsequently been actioned) and invited particular attention to signage both inside and outside the Church.
  4. Identified and facilitated social events across the Parish. This from the stand point that events must be self funding.

Our vision for the foreseeable future:

  1. Identifying and facilitating new projects and events.
  2. Detailed consideration of the opportunities arising out of out 150th anniversary.
  3. Responding to a reasonably constant flow of requests for action from the PPC.
